Phoenix-Wings — LBA grants BVLOS approval for PW.Orca
LBA Grants Two-Year BVLOS Approval for PW.Orca
We are excited to announce that the Luftfahrt Bundesamt (LBA) has granted our company a two-year BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) approval for our cargo delivery drone, PW.Orca. This significant milestone comes after an intensive testing period, during which we rigorously tested and validated our aircraft for emergency situations, including the parachute system. The LBA’s approval according to EASA standards is a testament to the robust, reliable, and scalable design of our drone technology.
Key Points of LBA’s BVLOS Approval
-
SAIL II Enhanced Containment: No probable failure of our UAS or any supporting external system will lead to operation outside of the designated flight area.
-
M2 Medium Robustness: PW.Orcas ground risk mitigations are effective and reliable. This reduces the ground risk class and allows us to operate in populated areas.
-
Operational Volume ARC-b and Adjacent Volume ARC-d: We are allowed to fly in uncontrolled and controlled airspace, e.g. in vicinity to airports.
-
Flight Area Over 156 Square Kilometers: With multiple German locations, we now have the capability to expand operations.
This is just one of the steps in proving the robustness, reliability and applicability of our system and pushing towards SAIL IV.
